Gaming is a fun hobby, but once you have your external hard drive for Xbox One and a couple of good games, you might start to feel like you’re spending more of your time playing games than you are doing anything else. Sometimes the slip into playing games all the time is so gradual that you don’t even realize it’s no longer a hobby, but rather your primary means of spending time. If you find yourself neglecting other areas of life to play games, it’s time to take a step back and fix the problem.

The first thing you need to do is limit the amount of time in a day that you’re going to be gaming. Assuming you’re going to work or school from Monday to Friday, try to limit your weekday gaming sessions to two hours maximum. This way you’ll still have time to study or do other things instead of just sitting in front of your console all day. Put your external hard drive for Xbox One away after those two hours are done and don’t take it out again until the next morning.

A good way to prevent gaming from negatively influencing your life is to follow a schedule. On this schedule, write down what you have to do and achieve every day. Once you’ve completed all those tasks you can reward yourself by gaming. Not only will you most likely become more productive than ever before, but your gaming sessions will be so much more rewarding and you won’t have that constant feeling of guilt while playing games that often occur when you’re procrastinating.

Once a week, usually on the weekends if you’re working or going to school from Monday to Friday, you can have a day where you do nothing but game.
